Iray vs Reality LuxRenderOk, so I just had to go and buy a decent GPU and try rendering with Iray. I've seen some fantastic renders these last few days, all made in Iray and with what seemed to me to be extremely quick render times - anything from five minutes to half an hour for pretty advanced scenes.Iray vs Reality LuxRender by karlwikman
As I'm writing this, my main computer is rendering a scene with the "Area 19" freebie, where I've turned two sets of meshes into emitters and have an HDRI environment surrounding the scene. I'm using only my new GPU to do the rendering, and although I don't get any "samples per second" statistics, I can say that in just half an hour it has gone up to 92% convergence and that already at 35% convergence it was more noise-free than I would ever have the patience to wait for a LuxRender to become.
Some quick impressions:
Benefits of Iray:
Fast as all hell - complex scenes with HDRI and mesh-lights clean up within 30-60 minutes, as compared to 12-48 hours on LuxRender

Personal Quote: If you dout it is real, then it isn't working!
I have seen others ask for points and I have finally broken down and will now ask. I could ask for enough for a whole year (2,396 points) but I am happy with a three month premium membership. If you like what I have here or just feel like giving, thanks. I hope I can get more and more renders out in the next few weeks.
Thanks again for any donations!
